Coaching into High Quality Instruction

IMG_3777Using the Professional Standards for Teaching Mathematics from NCTM and the Texas Process Standards, Aldine Specialists worked together to name classroom indicators for high quality instruction. Using their own classroom indicators, coaches will interview and set goals with teachers in order to build capacity in the upcoming school year.  [Tools:  4-Key Arenas Capture Chart]

With such a vision of high quality math instruction articulated, Aldine Math Specialists worked the rest of the afternoon on practicing how to communicate effectively with their teachers about instruction.  Throughout the afternoon the mathematics program director and her coaches/specialists alongside Houston A+ Challenge participated in readings, activities and role play scenarios in order to add communication skills to their coaching toolbox as they work with teachers in schools.

Being able to practice and place myself in the role.  It was good being able to learn and know that I have support. ~Math Specialist
