Westbury High School starts off the year studying the new Algebra 1 standards in order to prepare lessons for their students in the upcoming weeks.  James and I spent 2 days at Westbury High School working with the Algebra 1 team and their Mathematics Coach Lisa Hale.

To solidify their understanding around the new and clarified standards, we engaged the team in the mathematics which will be relevant in the upcoming weeks.  Number Routines and Stacking Cups to show proportional and non-proportional relationships delivered an interesting lesson which made way for some interesting conversations about student misconceptions and why context is crucial when engaging students in Algebra 1.
